It was about 1973-i often went to theatre with my family and sometimes with friends. This particular Saturday afternoon my firend and I had just seen a matinee of 6RMSRVW ( 6 Rooms River View) with Jerry Orbach. I had seen the original Pippin once and would eventually see it again with my boyfriend on Prom Night with dinner at Maxwell’s Plum with two other couples-good friends who were seeing different shows that night. Did I miss anything special by choosing not to go to Prom-i sometimes wonder, but not much. So this particular afternoon after seeing Jerry Orbach act we walked by the Imperial Theatre. There was a grandpa like man standing by the door where the actors exit-i guess i can call it a stage door, maybe. I stopped and said to this man in his brown uniform-I would love to meet John Rubenstein who played Pippin ( I thought that he was so cute but I didn’t say that)-he said well he just left already. He said if you like you can go inside and walk up the stairs and meet Ben Vereen. I said great. My friend stayed outside waiting for me. I did not realize how courageous and bold i was. I walked up the stars, knocked on his door-he opened it wearing a long medium colored blue silk robe. I told him how much I loved the music in Pippin. He gave me his autograph that I carried around in my wallet for years with joy. I was 16 or 17 at the time and it was really a highlight. I left as quickly as I was there. I still love the music from the original Pippin. We’ve got magic to do!

Thanks for sharing. Do you think they still let fans knock on dressing room doors? My bet is no, right?
